I guess if you’ve read my blog in the last few weeks, you know that I have been doing little else than writing a half-assed novel in the rough for National Novel Writing Month and for a self-experiment(if my memory has recovered it was #4). Well I finished, but not without a bit of drama and sacrifice.
When I got home from work yesterday at 3:30, I had 4000 words to go and a few ideas as to how to finish. I worked on and off until 11:15 and finished. Phew! I thought and went to submit my piece well in the midst of scrambling it (I don’t know why I bother, it is not worth reading, stealing or bothering about at this stage, but its standard procedure) I realized that I had scrambled my only copy with the last 4000 words, and to make matters worse when I went to unscramble it, the whole thing crashed. So I have 4000 words to find again. Maybe the ones I find this time will be better.
The important thing is that I learned I can type a lot of semi-sensical stuff quickly. Or, is it that I actually enjoy writing and not editing. Or, maybe that my typing is coming along nicely. Well anyway I did it and now I have a lot of words in a vaguely organized system called a rough draft of a Novel. Let the editing begin! I figure out of the 50,000 words I will end up with at most 30,000 and then of course there’s the ending to recreate.
What I learned most from doing this is that I didn’t mind doing it. So I must be a writer at heart, but I am not quitting my day just yet.
You did it!!!! Congratulations!!!!
By a gnat’s eyelash (do gnat’s have eyelashes? probably not), Thanks.
