Accidental Journey: The Gorge -West Fork Humptulips River

I was driving on the edge southern edge of the Olympic National Forest looking for a trail to Wynoochie Lake and ended up wandering around on the pothole bedazzled forestry roads. After a couple of hours of meandering, I crossed a very unimpressive bridge and saw this sign and went onto the bridge and took these pictures of what I found out later was the Humptulips River.

I drove up to Cambell Tree Grove Camp and walked a little way down Pete’s Creek trail. I was thinking that I had taken pictures of Pete’s Creek which I never was able to reach because I had to head back so I didn’t have to dodge crater-sized potholes in the dark. I took road 2220 because it was shorter and I had already had my bones jarred by road 2204. The road was the roughest 8 miles of the day with the last bit paved coming out onto 101 just north of Humptulips with the setting sun in my eyes. I took the highway home.
