Two Singers From Scandinavia

I have been listening to The Nest Collective radio program on resonance radio for the last couple of months and it has been a wonderful source of new music for me, music I am sure I would not have heard anywhere else.

This weeks show featured Ulli Mattson live along with other recorded music by Nordic performers. The one besides Ulli that grabbed my ears was Aurora. Once again here is the link to the show and youtube videos of a couple of beautiful songs. The program is well worth a listen.

What is considered folk music is much broader and has a lot of elements of pop music than it used to, but what I notice about the videos is the female performers are for the most part dressed more than not. They are women singing not objects of desire. I like that. I am definitely into the music.

Ed Dowie Sings About Bed Bugs

I want to meet this man and get to know him. He has a rare combination of talent and weirdness that I find irresistible. I found him on the Nest Collective Hour on Resonance Radio and found this lovely little video on YouTube.

Two Poems: One Made of Unattributed Samples.

PoeMash-uP

Time you enjoy wasting

is not wasted time.

Stop acting so small.

You are the ecstatic

motion of the universe.

It’s only our mistakes

that bring us to the place

where we should have been all along.

Watershed

A river is a place where water gathers

as it flows down from the mountains,

existing in dryness,

waiting for the rain or snow melt.

I have dug a channel

so the words can flow

through me to the bottom,

Where they pool, reflecting

The waves of life

that move around me.

On the way to the ocean

the river stays here.

in the flat lands,

winding this way and that,

pushed, flat to the earth,

through the vast swaying grass

The wind rushes above tumbling

ice and vapor, beyond the horizon,

full of potential creation and destruction

bound in chaotic chains of motion.
