Yes, and she did it very well.
I just finished the first volume of Doris Lessing‘s Canopus in Argos: Archives series. It is an astounding work of imagination combined with some insightful critical commentary on modern society, as well as some interesting ideas about life, death and religion, and the futility of politics. It is kind of an anti-Fountainhead, portraying a world in which most people only act according to their own greed and desires, which brings about the end of civilization. But, all is not lost. There is a happy ending. Definitely a wild and deep read full of surprises and interesting ideas.
