The First Two Poems of April

Fluid I

I Go quietly,

The earth is not my home.

inside my skin and bones

works of copper plate

resonate

patterned frequencies.

Gears click and grind.

I float downstream

knobby feet to the sun

tiny hands of water

pass me along

unconnected only loosely bound

in chaos as blood pumping

whispers in soft puffs

blown through a straw.

Fluid II

I think about a bowl

and those who wish

inside

eyes closed.

It hovers

a gyroscopic blur

accelerating into vapor

clouds form and cool in stretched

orbital rings swelling into planetary bubbles

whirling down a spiral funnel

spinning, compressed

into a nameless solution

flowing into lungs

breathing.

Playing with Zoom

I took my new zoomier camera outside yesterday and continued practicing and experimenting. I can’t believe how much the landscape has changed in the last 3 weeks, so much green and leafy going on.

I was trying to get a few shots of the robins in the park, when I saw a man looking at me with curiosity. I could see the robins in my camera clearly but it took his eyes a little longer to sort them out.

“I was just looking at you taking pictures of grass. Then I saw the birds.”

I told him that if he knew me better he would think that was more of 50/50 chance grass or birds, but I was after the birds trying to get them to stay in the frame long enough to capture them. Zoom is easy to use on stationary objects, but finding a subject when it has moved out of frame takes a lot of practice. I like how the zoom flattens objects and background and shifts the color. In a couple of the reflection images, I did very little to manipulate on the computer, and yet they have a very abstract expressionist feel to them. I am still looking for an interesting sky with some clouds to see how the new camera handles that. I am always looking for an interesting sky, or grass, or birds, or a black and white sign with words and a symbol of a bicycle.

Rosie Thomas Keeping Things Real With Sufjan

Her songs are simple and childlike, and she is obviously on a subversive mission to hang on to that young spirit that fills them for as long as possible. I hope she is successful and I get a chance to see her in perform in person.

From Parataxis a fine blog I follow

The special effects and staging are perfect as well as the obvious chemistry between the performers. She seems like a genuinely lovely person to hang out with as well as that guy with the guitar who can’t keep a straight face.

Two Singers From Scandinavia

I have been listening to The Nest Collective radio program on resonance radio for the last couple of months and it has been a wonderful source of new music for me, music I am sure I would not have heard anywhere else.

This weeks show featured Ulli Mattson live along with other recorded music by Nordic performers. The one besides Ulli that grabbed my ears was Aurora. Once again here is the link to the show and youtube videos of a couple of beautiful songs. The program is well worth a listen.

What is considered folk music is much broader and has a lot of elements of pop music than it used to, but what I notice about the videos is the female performers are for the most part dressed more than not. They are women singing not objects of desire. I like that. I am definitely into the music.
