Peace is a Place

Watch as you step
there will be a place
to put your feet

Somewhere between
the sun and moon
a star will shine

Mount your horse of water
raise your cup into the circle sky
the path will be clear before you

A sword gleaming
in the distant dark
will lead you home

A Stoop is Close to a Fall

I

She was not his hawk

None but her own

And preyed upon herself

With talons shredding

No soft hands or arms

but wings spreading

in down swirling push

could not pull her free

To bend the air

Under her and bear,

The weight of death away

To someday when her talons

Were busy with other prey

II

It was the words that made her stay

Words have spaces

leaving ragged canyons

between sounds

Her fury was not enough

To carry her over

Into the next headlong dive

Wings drawn back

She fell not flew

And struck the world

With such a force

As made trees strain and shiver

III

none could bury her

Just let her rise again

Now, she sees all fine, sharp

From the center bright skies

Noting every movement precisely

The rabbit under sagebrush

Quivering ever so slightly.

Art in Nature/ Andy Goldsworthy

I remember days losing myself in arranging rocks and driftwood on a beach, or weaving with plant stems, building river stone dams just to see what the materials and space and my body could make. Just to truly be in that space. To disappear into the shapes and colors, textures and sounds of a place be enveloped into it like land with senses. Just for that feeling of “I am amazed at times that I am actually alive!”

Hallelujah

John CaleHallelujah

Leonard Cohen knew how to write a song. John Cale knows how to sing it, and the strings are a nice touch. I love to sing this loudly. It is one of the most soothing songs I know. The louder I sing the better I feel.

A Quote, A Bit of New Story, and A Dream Haiku

William Butler Yeats, Irish poet

“The important arguments are the ones you have with yourself.”

William Butler Yeats

Out In the Rain

Minter stood in the rain. The gate in front of her was closed, iron bars set like pain against the green garden inside. Inside she sensed some hope of peace and something real. She was locked out by bars of pain.

She had traveled thousands of miles from her home in Nebraska, Grand Island, to stand in the rain. She was happy to be there. It was better than where she had been in the heart of the world, on the great plains, broad lands of grass and rivers running through.
