Autumn Poems #1

Leaves of Fire

burn at the ends of branches

reaching into the air

tearing in into the world

consuming the evergrowing tree

that draws fuel from the earth

from roots searching deep in soil

coiled, locked around rocks

dissolving into fluid stone

feeding the flaming tree,

star light and elements

all the same stuff

broken and burned

into the sky.

Where is the door

we wandered out of at the beginning

into this world crowded with

sensation?  Each experience

a door into another world

and more doors.

The return is never through

the same doors.

Tarot #38: Defeat, time to cut losses, fall back, and reassess

It could be that you are in denial about some aspect of your life that you are hanging on to. The longer you cling to the false hope the higher the ultimate cost to you and perhaps others will be.

The fates are against you in this losing cause; it is time to wake up to the facts. You have lost and must negotiate a surrender will allow you to spare you and those you fight with the worst of the consequences.

You might be involved in an escalating conflict in which pride or vanity is at stake that may end up becoming dangerous in a more physical or emotional way and you need to call a halt to it and come to terms with the other party before it gets too serious.

Careful examination of facts in their proper order to determine the appropriate action. All consideration must be taken to abide by the law and tradition or create a new ritual to retain order.

Accepting defeat is not the end of any important cause,  just the beginning of rising out of smoke and dust wiser for the experience earned in the struggle imbued with the energy of justice denied. Or, you may walk away to find more winnable battles.

Tarot #37: Knight/King of Swords, an arrow aimed true, speeding to the target.

A person driven with utter focus on a clearly attainable goal. The knight uses cunning and diplomacy, intimidation and stamina to achieve the object of passion. This is not a hot passion, but a strategic or tactical objective that is set through clear planning and launched with the energy of the well trained steed that the knight rides into battle.

There is a certain amount of potential violence, but only as much as is necessary to achieve the goal. There is no malice or mayhem in the rider only efficiency and a sense of urgency. Anyone blocking the path will be moved out of the way or cut down.

When we imagine the worst case outcomes of possible futures, we are likely to create nightmares of stress and may even become monstrous ourselves and lash out at those we care for.

Tortured by doubts and false premonitions, you have become frozen in horror and unable to rest or take care of those you love.

There are deeds from your paste haunting you driving you to acts of violence. Cruelty begets cruelty until the chain is broken by forgiveness or compassion. It is necessary to forgive yourself or focus your thoughts in a more positive direction. Remember thoughts are not reality until they are made real by obsession or persistent labor or practice. You can remove the power from a vision or memory by confronting it and moving past it.
